Visual Communication Project

For the past few weeks I have been working very hard on my project and I have finally finished. From the last time I blogged I have completed my sketchbook, final piece, statement and evaluation. I firstly worked on my sketchbook exploring and experimenting with all aspects of nature and oriental art. I have completed numerous pages of annotation, sketches, paintings and photographs, all linking to my sense of place. In the sketchbook I also included an Artist named Lucy Arnold. She has had a big influence on my interests in nature. Throughout school I studied Lucy Arnold and I love her work. So I thought it was important to include her. My interests in oriental art hasn't been influenced by artist but by the beauty and colour of the images.
As I worked through my sketchbook, I tried to think of a final piece and how I could link oriental art with nature. I researched many different images on the internet and finally came up with the idea of painting an oriental blind. I thought this was a great idea as I could link nature and oriental art like I wanted. I decided to paint three different flowers on the wooden stick blind. When I finished my final piece I was really pleased. I thought it looked really effective and was a great final part to my project. I feel like it has pulled the whole project together. It symbolises what I feel is my sense of place 'happiness'.
I decided to present my statement on a PowerPoint Presentation. The reason I wanted to do this was because I thought it would have been easier for someone looking in to understand. A PowerPoint Presentation enabled me to seperate the writing up into short sentences on different slides.
My statement consisted of my ideas, intentions, materials, media, sources and ICT programs that I planned to use in my sketchbook. I feel like I successfully used all the things I intended to.
This then led me on to my evaluation where I pulled everything together. I explained how I my ideas and intentions were realised, how the media and ICT I chose was appropriate and how I thought the project ultimately came together.

Visual Communication and ICT

I started my project for this course over two weeks ago and I feel that I am doing well. I am really enjoying this project as I am doing it on something that I enjoy and that is personal to me. We were given the term ' A Sense of Place' to complete our project on. So from this term I took what this actually ment to me and I went from there. I thought of a 'place' where I felt happy, secure, comfortable, safe and a sense of enjoyment. I took all of these into consideration and thought up a few things. For example, when I am with friends and family, uni life and Art. I chose to go into depth on Art. The reason for this was that I always feel a sense of happiness and enjoyment when I am being creative. I also felt that I could really go into a lot of depth on this subject.
In my project I have focused on oriental art and nature. I chose these because I feel these are my strenghts and I find them really interesting. I have found artists that have influenced my drawing and painting and have showed some of their work in my scrap book. I also know what I am going to do for my final piece.

Assignments

Up to now I have completed a few different assignment. This includes presentations, academic writing and reflection. I have enjoyed doing these assignment even though they have been difficult. I feel that I am now starting to get the 'swing' of things. I am starting to understand the amount of effort and research you have to do in order to get a good percentage and pass. I am also getting the grasp of referencing I think? Hopefully anyway.
We have been set many other assignments that are to be completed in May. These consist of a visual communication and ICT project, making a toy, a piece of academis writing, critique an artical and blog about lectures. I have made a start on all of these assignments and I feel that I am doing well. I have started to do them now so that I can make the best of my time off to get them sorted. I have not completed any of them yet but I am nearly there with a few. I have set myself goals and targets to achieve so that I can do these assignments to the best of my ability.
I have worked really hard on these assignments, even though I am not sure on parts of each, I have tried my best to make of them what I can.

Session for Suzie Pugh

During this session, we were asked to pick an emotion and take images that relate to and show this emotion. The emotion I chose was happiness. Whilst taking my images I found it really difficult to take images of happiness. Fortunately I was able to get a few of people having fun. Here are the images I took to portray happiness.

This was my favourite image. I love how I captured them laughing and smilling.  

Tagxedo

Above I have created a tagxedo, using the the tagxedo website. To create a tagxedo you have to load up words that you would like have have in it. I chose words about love, friendship and family. Then you develop it further by changing the shape colour and font.

Wordle

I have just created this bundle of words all about me. I used a website called wordle to create this. The website is really straight forward to used, I simple copied and pasted a paragraph about me into the box provided and I changed the words around into different positions and different colours and this is how it turned out. I think it looks really effective.

Graffiti

Above I have created my name in Graffiti, I used a website called the Graffiti Creator.The graffiti maker is really easy to use, you just enter a word of your choice and use all different colours and bubbles and stripes etc to decorate your word.

Text-image

Here is an image of a flower that I uploaded onto text-image.com. This website converts the picture in to loads of tiny words, for my image I chose the word flower.

Glogster

As I have said below I completed two weeks of work placement at Abertysswg Primary School. During my time at the school I was mostly involved with christmas activities. The children performed two christmas concerts. The reception class performed christmas with the aliens and the junior class performed cinderella rockerfella. Both concerts were amazing and all the children took part and performed brilliantly. I thoroughly enjoyed helping out and watching them. I have created a glogster about these concerts. The reason I chose to do a glogster was that I wanted to experiment more with the online poster as I can see the usefulness that it has. When using this program you can be very creative and it allows you to use many different images, graphics, text and you can also add audio and a video. Also, if you have added something from the internet to your glog you can add the link so that you can go back to where you found it. The only thing is that I still can't find how to upload my glogster on to here.

Placement

I have recently completed a week of work placement at Abertysswg Primary School in Rhymney. I thoroughly enjoyed my week and would love to go back. During my time in the school I completed many different tasks and worked with many different children at different ages. The children I worked with were at different academic levels. Throughout the week I helped mainly with christmas craft and the christmas concerts. I was at a disadvantage going this time a year because I couldnt observe the children working as it was the last week before christmas and there was so much going on. I would like to have had more time to have one to one with the children but it was impossible at this time of year. As I was unable to do this I am looking forward to the next opportunity I have to go back.
